The 1930'3 were the heyday of the great ocean liners. The S.S. Normandie was built to be an advertisement for French design, manufacturing expertise and craftsmanship. It was widely recognised as a floating showcase of the decorative arts and the list of craftsmen who worked on various aspects of the ship read like a catalogue of the cream of Art Deco. The Normandie sailed on its maiden voyage in 1935; it caught fire and sank in New York Harbour in 1941 during World War 2. The sofas and chair that we feature are close copies of those used on the Normandie and available with cushion seats as illustrated or plain seats. |
